Responsibilities:
- Establish, lead and manage the MS&T Drug Substance Lab Team, overseeing USP and DSP activities while optimizing resource utilization for ad-hoc support and long-term improvements.
- Collaborate with MS&T, CMC, QA, QC, regulatory, and manufacturing teams to enhance processes and support technology transfers in global vaccine manufacturing.
- Establish and maintain the Drug Substance Lab to meet Vaccines Business Unit needs, fostering teamwork and a transformation mindset.
- Build and lead a high-performing MS&T DS Lab team for Takeda's dengue vaccine lifecycle, while developing future talent.
- Provide scientific and technical leadership to achieve corporate goals for productivity, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Share expertise on Vaccines Drug Substance processes, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
- Develop proposals for scale-down models for technology transfer and make critical decisions on lab operations and process improvements.
- Engage with internal and external teams to raise awareness of new manufacturing technologies and develop complex process changes, considering quality and regulatory factors.
- Utilize knowledge of upstream and downstream operations to efficiently plan and execute experiments for process development and troubleshooting.
- Foster a collaborative environment and take calculated risks to improve lab operations and process efficiencies.
Profile
- MSc with 10+ years of experience in Vaccines or Biologics process development, MS&T Labs or start-ups, including multiple years of conceptual design, execution and evaluation of complex lab experiments.
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience and developing technical staff.
- Experience in single-use cell culture and/or DSP technologies; experience with live viruses or in cGMP is a plus.
- Deep knowledge of upstream and downstream biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes, preferably with single-use technologies.
- Self-starter and team player who balances entrepreneurial needs with structured process development and troubleshooting.
- Strong cross-functional communication skills and a proven track record in project leadership.
- Well-organized, detail-oriented, and capable of prioritizing in a matrix environment.
- Effective time and project management, with a hands-on mentality to lab activities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication in German and English.
- Experience in bioanalytical methods for process development is a plus.
